Quick Dresser Makeover

This was a quick, easy and cheap project!

My kind of project...

We have an old Bombay dresser that is about 6 years old. And when we purchased it, it was in the "as is" section because it had some dings. That didn't matter to us. It was a good quality... the right size for what we needed... and... CHEAP!

Who knew I would get so much use out of this thing!

About a year ago, when I spruced up our old bedroom, I spray painted the pulls a satin nickel. This helped to lighten up the piece and really worked well with what I was doing in that room... at that house.

{Note: The bottom 3 pulls are the original pulls spray painted satin nickel.}

When we moved to the DWITS {Double-Wide in the Sky}, the wood color didn't really fit into our space anymore. So, I thought I would start with changing out the hardware.

I ventured on over to Anthropologie.... headed straight to the clearance section.... found a cool mix/match assortment of knobs. Jackpot!

Tada!

I couldn't believe how much that helped!

BUT, it still didn't quite do it for me.

So, I decided to paint it.

BLACK.

Simple.  Plain.  BLACK.

But, a glossy black!

So, I ventured on over to Home Depot. Found a paint + primer.... told ya it was quick and easy. I couldn't get a high gloss, but the satin gloss still has a nice sheen to it. It takes a little longer to dry, but I just slapped paint right on over the dresser.

Of course, I dismantled first.

Minus the drive and dry time, this project took all of 1 hour. And that was with 3 coats {2 would've been fine.... but I went with 3 just for grins}.

What do you think?

It really works nicely in the room!

Now the knobs really jazz up the piece!

I'm LOVIN' it!

  1. I'm loving it too! It looks so classy :) The wood look was nice too but it's soo much better in black! But you must be one fast painter! It always takes me ages to do all the grooves..
